Sulev Kuuse was awarded the National Order of Merit
Prior to the Independence Day, the head of the vivarium, molecular and cell biologist Sulev Kuuse, was awarded the Order of the White Star, 5th Class by the President of the Republic of Estonia.
Sulev Kuuse has been involved in research and teaching at the Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology, University of Tartu. His research fields are developmental biology, cell biology, molecular biology, genetically modified organisms and their breeding. Together with the current president of the Republic of Estonia, Alar Karis, Sulev has been one of the pioneers of transgenic technology in Estonia.
It was a big surprise for me. I feel grateful that my work has resonated with people and has been been recognized.
Sulev Kuuse frequently publishes exciting articles in popular science magazines in Estonia. He has also co-authored several university textbooks. For example in 2023 the original Estonian-language university textbook "Cell Biology" was published which also received recognition from the Estonian Research Council.
In addition to teaching and research, he is the chairman of the Estonian Biology Olympiad jury, the leader of the Estonian team at the International Biology Olympiad, and a member of the International Biology Olympiad (IBO) jury.
He also manages the Omicum Art Gallery curating exhibitions. In addition he is a passionate photographer and hiker who has traveled through almost the entire world.
At IMCB, Sulev is characterized as a cheerful and wise colleague who is always ready to help others. Congratulations from the IMCB family!
President Alar Karis will present the national orders of merit on February 21st at the Estonian National Museum.
