Ambassador of India visited the University of Tartu

On 7 November, the Ambassador of India Ajaneesh Kumar visited the University of Tartu. During the visit, the ambassador had a meeting Rector Toomas Asser and the Director of the Institute of Genomics Mait Metspalu. 

At the meeting, the ambassador and the rector confirmed their willingness to promote relationships between Indian universities and the University of Tartu. Collaboration in biotechnology, genetics and environmental technology is of particular interest. The ambassador also met Indian students studying in Tartu; they praised the teaching staff, the learning environment and the living conditions offered by the University of Tartu.  

Over the years, the Institute of Genomics has accumulated vital experience in researching the genetic diversity of Indian peoples, and the ambassador discussed cooperation in this field with Director Mait Metspalu.  

The University of Tartu cooperates with five Indian universities within the Erasmus+ programme. 79 students of Indian origin are studying at the University of Tartu in the autumn semester of 2022.
