Going to the Stars – How can we build something like Star Trek?

Tartu Observatory and ESTCube-2 are proud to present Martin Tajmar, a professor for Space Systems at the Dresden University of Technology.

His passion is to investigate revolutionary propulsion concepts that can ultimately enable us to build science fiction technologies like the starship Enterprise.

So far we visited planets and moon in our solar system and sent a probe that will reach the next star in some 20,000 years. Is it possible to build a spacecraft that can carry humans to the stars within our lifetime? According to present knowledge – it’s impossible. However, this only means that we don’t know yet which tools will make it happen. Our universe if full of mysteries and the answer to some of those might help us to revolutionize space travel. This talk will explore some ideas and concepts along those lines and showcase the recent efforts at TU Dresden to build experiments and highly-sensitive measurement equipment in order to investigate breakthrough propulsion.

After the talk ESTCube-2 system engineer Kristo Allaje will introduce the satellite and its mission.

The talk is free of charge for everyone.
